Phototropic Pinlock Visors!

Arai has recently introduced a Pinlock visor that gets darker in the sun. Daft name, nifty concept!

And it works! I mounted it onto the back of a new, clear visor for my Arai Tour X 4 helmet. The rosy skin tone in this photo is from the sun-activated Pinlock visor. It works against fogging too, as one can see.

Whoa, that’s cool! Something like this is so high on my wish list for the BMW helmets. Afraid that’s not going to happen in the near future. How much time does it take to tint/de-tint, respectively?

Seconds, just like these sunglasses. You don’t notice the lag as a nuisance. But they tint in the cold, too. Could be a problem on a murky winter day.

Nice! The cold issue is interesting, I didn’t experience this with glasses or skiing goggles so far. Did Arai attach a degree Celsius value to “cold”?

No, that’s just my impression. I had it an less than 10*C.
